TO:             All Business Communication Students

FROM:        Mrs. Ellsworth, F.C.S. Business Teacher

DATE:         January 2008

SUBJECT:   Business Communications Course Introduction

Business Communications is a 1 semester, ½-year class. It will meet every 1st or 5th Period in room D135 until the end of this school year.  Keyboarding 1 is a prerequisite for Business Communications.  The skill of typing will be required.

This class will consist of work being completed on the computer, typing documents, listening to lectures, reading and completing assignments and participating in discussions. We will type for practice, complete and hand-in timings and type specified documents.  Within our lectures and activities we will focus on the real-life communications of the business world using computers.  Period tests and projects will also be assigned.

In the business world it is very important to be prepared.  To be prepared for this class, you must have a notebook for class; consisting of a folder and writing paper and you must also bring a writing utensil to class every day.  Handouts and notes will be given for inclusion in this notebook.  You will also be required to have a F.C.S. computer log-in account and a Lotus Notes Email account to participate in this class.  If you do not have one of the preceding, please see me as soon as possible.  It may take some time to get them set-up.

Much of the work assigned will be completed in class on the computers.  If you are absent for any reason it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and make-up that work in a timely fashion.  This class will be treated just like you are in the real world of work. An excessive number of missed days are grounds for dismissal.  Assignments will be discussed in the concept of deadlines.  Deadlines will be set and are final!  If you are unable to meet a deadline in the business world, it will damage your credibility and may even cause you to lose your job.

Each student will be graded on the following scale:

Homework, Classwork,
Quizzes & Timings                50%
Tests & Projects                   50%
Total                                  100%

Please see Mrs. Ellsworth if you have any questions.
